Karatta Wines Robe will present a new exhibition by South Australian artist Fiona Pattinson this summer, marking a significant homecoming for the internationally experienced painter, who has spent more than two decades living and working abroad.

Fiona Pattinson: An Artistic Journey

Fiona Pattinson's artistic practice is the culmination of a remarkable life, blending a rigorous professional background with a deep, intuitive connection to nature and the sea.

• The Unconventional Path: Originally graduating with a Law degree from the University of Adelaide, Fiona's early career included working abroad as an assistant to the Premier of Antigua. She rerouted her focus back to the arts, studying at the National Art School in Sydney before embarking on a successful career as a stylist for film and television.

• Global Perspective: Moving to the United States in the early 1990s, Fiona established her painting career through solo exhibitions in California, including at Louis Stern Fine Arts and Sovak Gallery. Her years living and traveling internationally shaped a global perspective.

• The Homecoming and Coastal Clarity: After 23 years abroad, she returned to Australia, choosing Beachport as her base. Her creative philosophy is grounded in staying close to nature as a "receptive" way of working.

• The Work: Her mixed-media canvases often incorporate very old maritime sail canvas, adding historical texture to her explorations of the eternal themes found in the nexus of earth, sky, and sea.

A Long-Standing Home for Art in Robe

Karatta Wines has supported the local art community for close to a decade. Owner Peg Wood’s long-standing passion for the arts has seen the gallery evolve, including a purpose-built back gallery where Fiona’s exhibition will be held.
